＃感恩手工瓷土作品冰島浪 將在 ＃美國 展覽～ 10月20-31日2025年 在美國 UAF Art Gallery 開展 感謝這個美好的機會～ Very excited that my work Icelandic Wave is part of your project @decipheringchange. Thank you so much for selecting it. I created Icelandic Waves during my 2023 residency at NES Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland, inspired by my observations and imagination of the waves there. https://www.wenhsichenceramics.com/2023-nes-skagastrond-iceland.html I carried Royal porcelain from Britain and traditional Japanese print materials, working with my Taiwanese hands to create these postcard-sized pieces. Through them, I reflect on the landscape and its connection to the blue-and-white porcelain tradition. For me, porcelain is a material that connects East and West. It is a precious medium, and I feel grateful to use it as the core of my practice. Like waves, porcelain travels across countries and cultures, floating between different landscapes and histories. The exhibition will take place from 20–31 October 2025 at UAF Art Gallery, USA. 『Through a call for submissions and by invitation, dis/comfort asks how Northern identity, colonialism, and climate change can be imagined and interpreted through layers of comfort and discomfort. Artists share encounters and intimacies with the North through video, photography, carving, embroidery, an interactive card game, a protest poem, and two-dimensional works printed on photo transparencies. Anemones in Shoe is inspired by the underwater world of Portland, especially the elegant sandalled anemones. I first discovered them during a walk in 2024, and later learned more through online research (www.dorsetmaps.uk/portland). They made me reflect on the island’s hidden marine life and our connection to the sea. I use porcelain as my voice—a material respected in both Eastern and Western traditions—to create sculptural pieces that speak of both fragility and strength. My practice explores the space between where I come from and where I'm going, what I remember and what I imagine. I’m also considering how to make my ceramic process more sustainable—how to be kinder to the environment and more mindful of materials. As a ceramic artist, I feel that caring about our impact is part of my social responsibility. I’m originally from Taiwan—also an island—and have moved between Taiwan and Britain. This ongoing navigation between cultures carries a sense of living in-between. For now, these porcelain pieces have found their place here—in Portland. Porcelain 瓷土

Some things are not right, some are broken — but this is part of the process of making porcelain wall art, just as it is in life. Philosophy teaches me to try to repair what is broken — and if that is not possible, to keep moving forward, keep smiling, and continue working hard. For me, porcelain is fragile, sensitive, soft, and precious. I am grateful that I still have the chance, as a living artist, to work with this precious material. 🥰 #porcelain
