＃在英國進入第16年 ＃我繼續努力～ Time passes so quickly. I got on the airplane on the 4th of July 2009 and arrived in Surrey, England, to begin my second Master’s degree in Contemporary Crafts (Ceramics) at UCA (University for the Creative Arts, Farnham). Afterwards, I worked as an artist’s assistant in Cardiff, Wales, and spent time between Wales and England. I also worked as a live-in nanny in London for almost two years, as I can speak both English and Mandarin. During this time, I gained a certificate in working with children under five years old and with additional needs. I was fortunate to receive PhD funding from the Taiwanese Ministry of Education (2013–2015), and I completed my PhD at Bath Spa University in 2018. During my studies, I volunteered at Spike Island and Arnolfini in Bristol (2017–2018), and later at the No.1 Royal Crescent Museum in Bath as a Room Guide (2018–2019), supported by the Bath Preservation Trust. In 2017, I joined the UNESCO-affiliated International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) in Switzerland. In 2022, I became a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. My BA is in Chinese Literature from Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan. My first Master’s degree was in Chinese Art History (Ceramics) from National Taiwan Normal University, also in Taipei. I changed my career path from Chinese Literature to Art History (theory), and then to ceramics practice. I moved through various visa statuses—from a student visa to a work visa and back to a student visa. I passed the Life in the UK Test, and eventually, I was lucky enough to become a British citizen. Even though some people may not believe I am British—it’s quite funny!—people often judge me by my appearance or accent. Still, I’ve never stopped dreaming big: to live and work as an artist. Thank you to everyone who has liked or disliked me along this life journey in the UK. I will continue to work hard and believe in myself as I pursue my dream of becoming a full-time artist. Thank you to those who laughed at my dream, and to those who supported it—especially those who have collected my handmade, one-off porcelain artworks. This marks my 16th year in the UK. I’m not sure whether I will stay here forever. I look forward to living somewhere that welcomes me as an artist. Thank you, Britain. You have taught me a lot—and made me stronger.
