This event was organized by artists Wen-Hsi @wenhsiharmanporcelainart and Martin Harman @martinharmanart during their artist residency to celebrate the Lunar New Year through a creative calligraphy workshop. Originally from Taiwan, Wen-Hsi shared her Taiwanese cultural identity by introducing the traditional "Eight Principles of Yong" in calligraphy. During the workshop, participants used specially prepared handmade red paper, Chinese brushes, and ink to learn how to write traditional Chinese characters. These characters symbolize health, wealth, good luck, and the joy of embracing the future. As an artist, I, Wen-Hsi, feel a social responsibility to use creative activities to exchange culture with others and contribute to building a better society. I hope for a more peaceful world. #土耳其工作日記 #感恩 有機會來土耳其伊斯坦堡工作， 把完成的九張水彩畫，帶到戶外拍照片～ 讓作品到真實的生活空間中，感受當地的空氣和氣氛～ 文曦陶瓷藝術創作英國 https://www.wenhsichenceramics.com I completed nine watercolor paintings during my artist residency in Istanbul, Turkey. I decided to move my work from the inside space to the outside, into the real world, because much of my inspiration came from observing Turkish cultural identity through colors, tea, coffee, and emotions. I challenged myself to travel to a new country for this residency, allowing myself to step out of my daily routine and create something different from my usual practice. This experience pushed me to embrace discomfort, as a way to discover new ideas. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have the freedom to continue my artistic practice, regardless of how others may judge my watercolors or question my personal identity. Thank you, Istanbul—whether the experiences were good or bad, they have become an essential part of my journey. As an artist, this process is my way of life and philosophy.
