英國波特蘭島Portland 計畫 UK

(https://www.instagram.com/p/DGiMTtQNfiB/?img_index=1) , I would like to share with you. 『Thank you for allowing me to join the One Island – Many Visions project with members of the Royal Society of Sculptors, in collaboration with the Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust, to develop my new artwork: Anemones in Shoe. I was inspired by the underwater world of Portland, UK, particularly the sandalled anemones (referenced from RY. Portland – Dorset’s Marine Protected Areas, www.dorsetmaps.uk/portland). I find sandalled anemones incredibly elegant. Last year was my first time walking in Portland. I hadn’t noticed the incredible marine life beneath the sea until I began researching online. This discovery led me to reflect on environmental issues and the relationship between the island and the sea. To develop this project, I have collected ready-made porcelain shoes from charity shops in Bath, England. Combining my handmade porcelain process, I used watercolor to sketch the development of the work. I also decided to change the colour of the sandalled anemones from yellow to blue. This shift was inspired by the traditional wedding customs in the UK: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue—a blending of past and present, personal and cultural. (Royale porcelain from Bath Potters Supplies ) Originally from Taiwan—an island—I came to England to study in 2009, and now I find myself on yet another island: Portland. I have lived in the UK for nearly 15 years. In a way, I feel as if I have "married" this island (Britain)—or perhaps not. I see myself as a traveler in in-betweenness, often moving between Taiwan and Britain, between different islands. I am searching for a space where I belong—a space that comforts and accepts me, one that exists in the in-between. My work explores the concept of between: Between nature and the man-made world Between death and life Between landscape and nature Between time and space Between others and self Between foreigners and travelers Between homeland and foreign land Between handmade and ready-made For me, an island exists in my mind, no matter where I am or which cultural backgrounds I encounter. At this moment, in Portland, I reflect on the connection between the island and the sea through my handmade porcelain practice, creating a piece that belongs to this island: Portland.
