I enjoyed seeing so many beautiful tiles, as well as the glass windows adorned with ceramics and other materials, such as what appeared to be seashells. The combination of different materials used to construct the interior space fascinated me. I noticed how the colors—yellow, blue, and green—work wonderfully together. I also enjoyed looking at the Islamic calligraphy, appreciating the lines and colors, even though I do not fully understand their meanings. I am grateful to be taking part in the artist residency in Istanbul, Turkey. I continue to observe the world around me and use watercolor to explore Turkish cultural identity while working hard on my artistic practice.
